Building Confidence Ltd provides building regulatory advice on matters relating to the requirements of the NZ Building Act including its regulations like The Building Code and associated documents — such as acceptable solutions and verification methods.
Its philosophy is to help clients meet their obligations in a smart and intelligent way.
Building Confidence also provides expert witness work as well as consulting services in the area of engineering governance and management, technical risk management management, environmental and health and safety systems development and auditing.
John Gardiner (FIPENZ)
The Managing Director of Building Confidence is John Gardiner who is a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand.
Prior to setting up Building Confidence, John was Manager of Determinations and Assurance at the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE). At MBIE he was the decision maker for Determinations under the Building Act, responsible for building product issues as well as being the programme manager for the implementation of the new Earthquake-prone Buildings legislation.
Prior to joining MBIE he was Deputy Chief Executive of Engineering New Zealand (then IPENZ).
John also spent seven years as a Project Manager in the Evaluation and Audit Division of the Ministry of Defence where he had responsibility for the management of strategic performance reviews of the New Zealand Defence Force and major capital projects (such as ANZAC ships) managed by the Ministry of Defence.
Earlier, he held a variety of technical and technical management roles in the then New Zealand Railways Department and later Corporation.
John is an avid road cyclist.
